Israel's Minister of Culture and Sport, Miri Regev, attended the screening of the opening movie of the Cannes film festival.

Regev came to the festival in France to open the activities at the booth presenting Israeli movies which was designed to help strengthen ties between local filmmakers and the world industry as well as attract foreign productions.

This year the Israeli dress designer Arik Herman addressed the minister and offered to create a dress for the event. Regev asked him to express the beauty of Jerusalem in the dress in honor of 50 years of its liberation and unification.

Herman designed an elegant, royal and ornate dress. The bottom of the dress is made from high quality brocade with gold threads entwined in it, with the dress depicting the horizon of the Old City of Jerusalem. The special graphics of the horizon were created together with designer Boris Sultanov.

The upper part of the dress is of golden mesh fabric with a texture combining elegance and the brightness of gold. At the neckline the designer placed a jewel made of crystals, gems and metal strips.

Herman announced that "I am thankful for the opportunity the minister gave me to give expression to the celebrations of the holy city. 50 years ago Naomi Shemer wrote 'Jerusalem of Gold, copper and light,' a song which moves me every time afresh. Over the last few months I worked with total dedication on creating this dress together with my mother, Sarit, and we are very proud of the result."
