Local leaders in Judea and Samaria have enabled construction freezes by repeatedly supporting Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his Likud party, MK Nissan Slomiansky (Jewish Home) asserted Wednesday.

"We differ on specific issues with the High Court for Justice, the Kulanu party and also with the Prime Minister, who not only freezes [active] construction, but also [long-term construction] programs," Slomiansky said, in a special interview with Arutz Sheva.

"Samaria Regional Council leaders continue to give him support and vote for him," he complained. "In this situation it's clear that the Prime Minister says to himself, 'if I do this and they still vote for me, I can continue to [freeze building in Judea-Samaria]."

"I went to him [over this issue] more than once, and he responded: 'What do you want? They continue to vote for me."

Top Judea and Samaria leaders - including the heads of the Samaria Regional Council and Gush Etzion Regional Council - publicly supported Netanyahu as recently as the 2015 elections. Despite this, Netanyahu continues to stymie building in Judea and Samaria; a November 2015 exposé revealed that he approves just 440 construction projects per year of his term, just 1/4 of construction under Ehud Barak.

Despite heading an allegedly right-wing government, Prime Minister has been operating a covert building freeze in the region since peace talks were launched in 2013.
