Large numbers of Border Police mobilized early Thursday morning and moved on the new community (known as an outpost in the general media) of Mitzpe Yitzhar, demolishing two buildings at the site. Residents reported that the military forces sneaked into the community by coming in through a side road, via the Arab village of Innabus, instead of via the main road into the area. Mitzpe Yitzhar is located adjacent to the central Samaria community of Yitzhar.

The forces demolished a caravan used as living space, and a building for agricultural use. Security forces are spread out around the area and no protests have been reported. Security forces blocked MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) from entering the site. In response, Ben-Ari said “I fear that the demolition of these buildings will elicit a chain of responses. Instead of trying to calm the situation Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are aggravating the situation, throwing a lit match into a barrel of oil. This is unwise in addition to being unjust,” he said.

After demolishing the buildings, security forces left the site. Residents of Yitzhar and neighboring communities began rebuilding the demolished structures. MK Ben-Ari and Samaria Regional Council chairman Gershon Mesika, were able to reach the site later, and helped residents clear the demolished buildings and begin the rebuilding process.

Mesika said that it is “disgusting to see how our forces hungrily seek to destroy Jewish homes in the Land of Israel, wielding discriminatory laws that apply only to demolishing of Jewish homes, while on the hill opposite us there are dozens of houses built by Arabs without permits and in contradiction to the law – some of them in direct defiance of decisions of the High Court. The situation is even more aggravating because a supposed right-wing government is in power, elected on a platform of mass building in Judea and Samaria. I am positive that these structures will be rebuilt,” Mesika said.
