MK Aryeh Eldad has accused Palestinian Authority forces of attacking him within the municipal boundaries of Jerusalem, an area under full Israeli sovereignty. PA officers smashed the windows of his car as he drove through the area with fellow Ichud Leumi MK Uri Ariel and Jerusalem activist Aryeh King on Thursday, he said.

Ariel and Eldad were touring the Kfar Akeb and Kalandia neighborhoods in the northern part of the capital. The two went to witness illegal Arab construction on several Jewish-owned properties in the area.

Israeli police and soldiers have stopped patrolling the areas, Eldad said. Police refused to provide security to the MKs during their tour.

When the group passed soldiers on their way to Kalandia, soldiers warned them that Israelis were permitted to enter the area, but that they themselves did not do so, he said.

"On our way back, about 500 meters from the Atarot checkpoint, we were followed by a jeep carrying Palestinian police officers in black uniforms and black berets,” Eldad recalled. “They were unarmed. They ordered us to stop. When we didn't stop, they called for backup and tried to block us in.

"They hit the front window of the car I was using and shattered it. We hit the gas pedal and hurried out of there. If we had stayed another few minutes, it might have ended in a lynch,” he said.

Eldad said he would pursue the incident with police and IDF officials in order to determine why an area under Israeli sovereignty has been abandoned to the PA.
