Arab Attempts Terror Attack

A Palestinian Authority Arab terrorist attacked the Mishor Adumim gas station Thursday morning, but he was stopped before he could do any damage, and killed by police who arrived at the scene. One gas station attendant and a policeman were lightly wounded in the terror attack.

The terrorist, who selected as his target the Delek company gas station, tried to set one of the pumping stations on fire. He then poured gas on the station attendant and lit a match, setting his victim on fire and slightly burning the attendant's head and hands.

At the same time, the attacker also accidently set himself on fire.

Police who arrived at the scene ordered the attacker to cease immediately and stay where he was. He then ran at the police in an attempt to attack them and was shot dead on the spot; however, he managed to lightly wound one police officer.

The injured policeman received treatment in the Haddasah Ein Karem Medical Center and the gas station attendant was treated for burns at Haddasah's Mt. Scopus hospital. The blaze which was ignited at the gas station was extinguished by firefighters. One stray bullet from the policemen's guns damaged a firefighting vehicle.

Also Thursday an Arab woman from the village of Kuseifa attacked an Israeli in Arad with a hammer, lightly injuring him. The Israeli was taken to Soroka Medical Center and the Arab woman arrested by police for questioning.

The security establishment has warned of possible terror attacks in Israel in response to Operation Cast Lead in Gaza. The police have increased their readiness level and residents of Judea and Samaria have been warned to maintain a higher level of alert than usual while traveling through the region.
