The Qatari newspaper al-Raaya published a caricature of outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert as a butcher with a knife dripping with red blood. The Hebrew language website Omedia translated the Arabic.
Inscribed on the knife, in Arabic: "Butcherer of Palestinians."
The caption (above) reads: "Olmert passes on the equipment to his replacement."
'Moderate' Fatah Shows She Received It
The Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) organization called to western attention the following recent caricature published in one of the official Palestinian Authority (PA) organs.
While the PA, which is associated with the Fatah umbrella organization that includes several terror branches, is considered "moderate" in the western world, its official media presented Kadima chairwoman Tzipi Livni holding a dagger dripping blood, an arm's length away from a dove, the classic bird of peace, that appears about to be hung.
The current events being depicted in the caricatures are Prime Minister Olmert's resignation from the premiership, and Livni's standing as the most likely to replace Olmert as prime minister. She was elected last week to head the ruling Kadima party and President Shimon Peres has designated her to to try to form the next Israeli government.
PMW translated the Arabic captions. Bottom text from right: "Gio-Kadima" This is a play on words: Livni's political party is called "Kadima." The original Italian name of Mona Lisa is "La Gioconda."
