Arnon Bar-David, head of the Histadrut (General Federation of Labor), which includes most industrial and agricultural workers in Israel, has declared that a "financial Yom Kippur is upon us. The economy is bleeding and major companies are on the verge of collapse. Employees have been let go and thousands have been forced to take vacation without pay. Tens of thousands of employees and their families will be affected."
