Following the coronavirus disease outbreak on Israel and the Health Ministry's placement of tens of thousands into home isolation, Tzohar Rabbinical Organization Chairman Rabbi David Stav argues that hearing Purim Megillah reading may be accomplished live online.
"In a routine situation, Megillah may not be heard over the phone or Internet, but we are in a time of emergency, when tens of thousands are in isolation, so anyone who does not have a kosher megillah may fulfill his obligation by viewing or listening live," Rabbi Stav said, adding: "The poskim including Rabbi Moshe Feinstein and Rabbi Eliezer Waldenberg were lenient in this and allowed it."
