In response to the comments of Eli Shaviro the Mayor of Ariel, and his announced resignation from the Yesha Council, Gush Etzion Regional Council Head Shlomo Ne’eman said:
"I regret the comments made by my friend, the Mayor of Ariel. The Yesha Council held a serious and in-depth meeting, which Eli was unable to attend, and the discussion on the issue [of the Trump plan], isn’t over. Additional discussions are scheduled to be held this afternoon. The opposition to a Palestinian state is an ideological principle and I am somewhat surprised that that position surprises anyone. I view the Yesha Council as an important body that represents all the residents of Judea and Samaria, and for me, it is an honor and a duty to belong to it.
"This is a turbulent period, and the reality of it leads to discussions which definitely reach the most sensitive nerves on the body of our nation. This is the time for discourse not for resignations. We all hope that after Eli thinks twice, he will join us once again. The application of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria is the fulfillment of a dream of entire generations and a lofty goal which unites us all."
