Parents of students at the nine-year-old Yefeh Nof School, the only state religious school in Jaffa, struck the institution and took their children to protest outside Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai's office.
The mayor said he would not be willing to talk to parents as long as they use the children as part of their protest. The parents replied that the municipality chose to take the step without the needed dialogue. While the city called the closure of the school a merger with another due to low enrollment (120) students, the other school in the merger is a 40-minute ride away and the move leaves the Jaffa area without a religious state school.
