The Supreme Court has rejected a petition against the Muslim Waqf Authority on the Temple Mount's takeover of an ancient structure at the Mercy or Golden Gate and the erection of another mosque on the Temple Mount.
The building had been closed for many years due to terrorist activities that took place there. The Regavim movement for preservation of state lands petitioned the court, demanding that the mosque not be operated on the spot, emphasizing that the state itself sought a judicial order to close the complex, but did not bother to implement it. The court went along with the state's decision, saying it would not get involved.
