Danny Ben Shabbat, father of the late Moti who rescued people trapped in their vehicles during the Nahariya flooding and paid for it with his life, retold the moments of the disaster:
"I recreate everything that happened, which is very difficult," Danny Ben Shabbat told Channel 12 News. "I heard a shout from the room, 'Dad, there's a disaster, children are trapped in the car.' I ran straight down from the fourth floor and my son followed me. Before I could get there, Moti was already there, in the water, rescuing them. I jumped into the water because people were shouting that there was also a baby, Moti saw the baby chair and dove in to look for him. In the water, apparently he ran out of strength, air; I saw only his hand. I tried to hold it but I couldn't, he disappeared. At that moment, I knew I had lost my son."
He added, "He didn't care about anything, just save lives. He kept saying, 'I'll keep watch on you from above'."
