Hundreds of thousands of Iranians gathered in Tehran Monday for the funeral of Qassem Soleimani, the Iranian general killed in a US drone strike last week.
Soleimani, who headed the Revolutionary Guards Corps' Quds Force, was killed amid a broader escalation of tensions between the US and Iran.
Last month, Iranian-backed a Shi'ite militia fired rockets at a US base in Iraq, killing one American civilian contractor and injuring several US soldiers.
The US retaliated with five airstrikes on militia bases in Iraq and Syria.
Later, rioters, organized in part by Iranian-backed militias, stormed the US embassy in Baghdad.
