Pompeo: We would have been negligent had we not taken this action.

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was interviewed by NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday regarding the elimination of Commander Qasem Soleimani of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force.

Pompeo said, "We would have been culpably negligent had we not taken this action." Asked if the need to do so was that imminent, Pompeo replied, "We made the right decision. ... The risk of doing nothing exceeded the risk of the action we took."
