Chairman Arnon Bar-David of the Histadrut Labor Federation has responded to the National Insurance Institute's poverty report by saying, "The rise in the poverty rate in Israel is unbelievable, and is indicative of the critical need of the authorities to combat the phenomenon and to increase support for the disadvantaged, workers and retirees."
Bar-David concluded, "There is no escaping the raising of the minimum wage in the economy as soon as a new government is established."
