As police prepare for Tuesday evening's celebrations of the civil new year, they said 9,774 people have been caught driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs in 2019.
That's 4.4 percent more than 2018's total of 9,361 and almost 16 percent more than the 8,428 drivers caught in 2017.
