Minister of Transportation Bezalel Smotrich has written to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu with a demand that he immediately decide to apply Israeli sovereignty in the Jordan Valley, explaining that such a move would constitute "an appropriate Zionist response" to the decision of the International Criminal Court's prosecutor to investigate Israel on "war crimes."
Smotrich emphasized, "Applying Israeli sovereignty to the Jordan Valley is a widely agreed issue. However, due to the sensitive political timing, and as I described in the outline I conveyed to you last week, I propose that after the official decision of the Cabinet meeting is made as required, that this be brought to the Knesset for a vote to express the will of the people without political distinction." He added, "The time has come to make it clear that unilateral measures will be met with unilateral measures. In addition, I urge you to immediately dismantle the Palestinian Authority in order to counteract the tribunal's political threat."
