Congressman Andy Levin (D-MI) said, late Monday, that he is deeply saddened by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's response to a letter by 106 Democratic lawmakers opposing Pompeo's recent announcement that the United States does not view Jewish communities beyond the 1949 Armistice Line as inconsistent with international law.

Citing former Republican presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush and their secretaries of state, Levin wrote, "This response ignores decades of history - most importantly, that bipartisan adminsrations have repeatedly pointed to settlements as a barrier to peace." He also said, "And as Congress affirmed earlier this month, without a two-state solution, Israel's future as a secure, democratic homeland for the Jewish people will be in jeopardy."
