The initiative of Education Minister Rafi Peretz to completely ban the use of smartphones in schools went into effect this morning.
Deputy Mayor Hagit Moshe of Jerusalem, who holds the city's education portfolio, welcomed the initiative, saying, "The responsibility of both schools and parents together is to reduce the use of smartphones as much as possible at the elementary school age and enable children to experience school learning in a natural, enriching and comprehensive way." Moshe is currently leading a comprehensive city-wide process of implementing special programs in online protection with the aim of equipping students with information and ability to use the social network correctly."
