Member of Knesset Meir Cohen (Blue and White) has asked Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein to convene a special session of the Knesset Education Committee, in light of the Ministry of Education's decision to cancel the Hanukkah school.

In his letter, Cohen called the decision "a serious economic blow to many families in Israel who are already collapsing under the cost of living." He explained, "This is a matter of thousands of shekels for every family, in a situation where many parents will have to choose between taking forced leave from work and expensive and unnecessary funding of supervision over their children. If that is not enough, there may be a situation where [financially] strong authorities can fund the project themselves, while in weak authorities, the burden is placed on the parents."
