A 44-year-old Yavneh resident has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a Bituach Leumi National Insurance Institute employees, telling seniors he was seeking to better their rights, and stealing money and property from them.

Over the past few weeks, a number of complaints from elderly residents of Ashdod have been received, telling police that the senior-looking Russian-speaking man used various means to get their credit cards, demanded the cards' codes, and when he aroused their suspicions, he would flee, taking property as well. The preliminary findings of the investigation revealed that the suspect was able to use the credit cards for hundreds of shekels. This morning, he is being taken to court, where police will seek to extend his detention for further investigation and to locate additional complainants.
