A two-and-a-half-month-old baby was admitted to Shamir Medical Center this week with a severe respiratory illness, similar to a whooping cough (pertussis).

The hospital said that due to the severity of the illness, the baby was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit. "His condition is good and stable, and he is under close medical supervision. Our tests show that neither the mother nor the baby were vaccinated against whooping cough."
