In a routine operation at the Ofer crossing in the Jerusalem area by Border Police officers along with Military Police and a civilian security company, heavy smoke began to emerge fro a vehicle that reached the checkpoint.
A Border Police officer serving as the transit commander identified the smoke coming from the vehicle, took the fire extinguisher that was in the passageway and, together with a civilian security guard immediately approached the vehicle, removed a frightened woman who was inside and successfully controlled the fire.
Apparently the fire was caused by an electric shortage in the headlights. There were no casualties in the incident; one lane was closed following the incident and the vehicle is expected to be towed in the near future.
