The Israel Police, through its representatives in Interpol, South America, and Europe, is bringing the escaped prisoner Erez Akryashevsky to Israel.
Akryashevsky escaped from Israel 18 years ago while on leave from prison after being convicted of a double murder of a father and son in the Carmel Market area in Tel Aviv in 1998, due to a financial dispute and related offenses of forgery, and was sentenced to 21 years in aggregate. Following his appeal, the punishment was reduced to 18 years.
After serving three years in prison, he went on vacation from prison, during which he fled abroad with forged documentation and was declared an "escaped prisoner".
Akryashevsky landed in Israel early this morning accompanied by Israeli police officers, after being arrested by Mexican enforcement authorities while carrying forged documents.
