Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said on Tuesday night at a special assessment of the situation with the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Police Command, "I identify with the Ethiopian community and respect the desire to express protest. The forces acted with restraint and containment in order not to reach violent confrontations. I am aware of the great suffering of the public and regret it. It is important to understand that the police acted so as to prevent casualties."
Erdan added, "Unfortunately, among the demonstrators there were and still are people who are using great and unbridled violence against policemen and civilians. Demonstrators who throw rocks at an ambulance and harm rescue forces lose legitimacy. We will continue to fight for their right to protest but we will not tolerate anarchy."
