Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has rejected Justice Minister Amir Ohana's contention that not all verdicts handed down by a court need necessarily be honored. Mandelblit said, "In the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, based on the principle of the rule of law, the obligation to obey the rulings of the courts is a basic enlightened element that serves as a guarantee for the protection of the right of every citizen of the state. This is not subject to choice. This is a duty imposed on every citizen and every governmental authority, whatever it may be."
Mandelblit added, "The Attorney General will continue to work in full cooperation with the Minister of Justice and the government, while insisting on a fruitful and respectful dialogue."
