With hot and dry weather forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday, Fire Commissioner Didi Simhi has published a ban on bonfires for Lag BaOmer outside of areas approved by local governments.
Following an assessment of heat and wind forecasts, Simhi signed an order limiting the size of bonfires to 1.5 meters high and three meters in diameter. In addition to a previously-announced ban on bonfires in forests, even in usually permitted places, the order increased distances for bonfires from forests, residential buildings, natural gas and fuel facilities and power lines.
