The Movement for Governance and Democracy (Hatenua Lemeshilut Vedemocratia in Hebrew) has criticized Chief Justice Esther Hayut for saying, at the 25th Conference of the Israel-Germany Jurists Association in Nuremberg, "Judicial independence is one of the cornerstones of any democratic regime"
A statement by the movement said, "This is a distortion of history! A court in Germany before the Nazis came to power was authorized to annul laws and even annulled them. It did not prevent and possibly even encouraged the rise of the Nazis. The attempt to compare the constitutional processes that are practiced throughout the world to dark attacks is despicable and unacceptable, certainly not from the chief ustice of the Supreme Court of the state of the Jews."
