Attorney General Avihai Mandelblit intends to approve the appointment of Interior Minister Aryeh Deri as a minister in the next government, while State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan is opposed to such approval due to his office's expected recommendation to place Deri on trial subject to a hearing on a number of financial charges, according to Yediot Ahronot.

Nitzan believes that the suspicions against Deri should be treated with extreme severity, since he was convicted of bribery and was imprisoned the last time he was a minister and allegedly committed offenses when he served again as a minister. The police investigation ended with a recommendation to accuse Deri of fraud, breach of trust, perjury, tax evasion and money laundering.
