Five firefighting and rescue teams, assisted by the hazardous materials unit of the firefighting services, are working Thursday to deal with a gas leak and a fire in a main gas pipeline on Dov Sadan Street in Jerusalem's Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood.
The leak began due to work carried out on the site and damaged a gas pipe connected to a number of gas collectors and eventually the gas caught fire. In order to prevent potential danger to tenants living in adjacent buildings, it was decided to evacuate them until the fire extinguished completely. At the same time, teams from the Unit for the Handling of Hazardous Firefighting and Rescue Materials at the Jerusalem Station conducted tests and samples with gas detectors in a large radius around the leak zone, and at this stage they report that there is no accumulation of gas at a level liable to cause risk.
