Chairman Hanan Melcer of the Central Elections Committee made it clear on Thursday that he would recommend granting the committee enforcement tools without the current need for a prior petition.
Interviewed by Israeli public radio on lessons learned from the just-concluded Knesset elections, he cited publication of an item on the Likud channel during the elections, which made improper use of the image of journalist Amnon Abramovich, a disabled veteran, noting that he was able to implement enforcement only after a petition was submitted to the Elections Committee and due to the public reaction that came after the publication.
