Initial findings from the spacecraft crash investigation find a sensor that measures acceleration transmitted a failure message that caused an activation command to be sent to the component. The command restarted the entire spacecraft, and the engine was turned off.
Of the 5-6 restart attempts, only two succeeded. The activation command led to a chain of events at the end of which the spacecraft crashed on the Moon.
