President Reuven Rivlin has urged Tal Russo, the number-two Labor Party candidate in the recent Knesset election, not to resign, as he has been considering.

Referring to the retired general's decision to run for office during his meeting with Labor representatives regarding formation of the government, Rivlin said, "I have often thought that the law of cooling off [after holding senior positions] distanced excellent people for a period that is unnecessary. I know that if you leave, excellent people will enter, but it is good that anyone who decides that he wants to contribute to the state will stay there."
