A few days ago a man in his 50s, a resident of Dimona, was evacuated to the Soroka Medical Center in critical condition, in deep shock and in a state of collapse.

The hospital said he died apparently from methanol poisoning.

Sterno ("canned heat") is a fuel made from denatured and jellied alcohol including methanol. There are many instances of people drinking Sterno to become intoxicated, i.e. as a form of surrogate alcohol. Since the alcohol it contains is denatured, Sterno is poisonous.
