President Reuven Rivlin held a working meeting with Cape Verde Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, who is visiting Israel. The meeting took place at the President's Residence.
The President said: "For hundreds of years, Cape Verde has had a Jewish community, and your government maintains our heritage sites there with love and dedication, but only recently has the Jewish cemetery in Sao Anteau been renovated. This is testimony to true friendship. But it's important that our friendship not only be reflected in bilateral relations. We would appreciate Cape Verde's support in international forums, including the UN General Assembly, and our return to the African Union as an observer."
The Prime Minister of Cape Verde gave the President a book describing the history of the Jewish community in his country. "Cape Verde hopes to be the next start-up nation and we would like to cooperate with Israel so that our young people will come here and learn from you, and we want to cooperate with you on water, renewable energy, and maritime security," he said.
