The Anti-Defamation League has come out against Fox News commentator Jeanine Pirro's suggestion that Democratic Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar's hijab may mean that she's against the Constitution. Responding to recent remarks by Omar, Pirro said, "She is not getting this anti-Israel sentiment doctrine from the Democrat Party," and asked, regarding the head covering, "Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which is antithetical to the U.S. Constitution?"
The ADL wrote, "Insinuating that wearing a hijab is antithetical to the Constitution is a hideous, bigoted attack against Rep. Omar and the Muslim community. This fear-mongering is irresponsible, dangerous & contrary to Constitutional prohibition of a religious test for public office."
