MK Moti Yogev appealed to National Security Council head Meir Ben Shabat to intervene in the construction of the mosque at the Gate of Mercy on the Temple Mount.
"I'm not among those who ascend the Mount. However, last Friday, the Muslims prayed at the Gate of Mercy. This is a new, illegal mosque that was built last week with no permit, in a place that never served as a mosque, unilaterally, in violation of the police orders and breaking the locks with which the police closed the compound. They violated agreements with the State of Israel."
Yogev added: "Right after the elections, Trump's plan will be presented, and the division of Jerusalem is on the agenda. We must be on the lookout for Muslims breaking into the Temple Mount. The Muslims broke into the Temple Mount with the intention of establishing facts on the ground for the future. Despite the election time, we must do everything to prevent the division of Jerusalem and the illegal takeover of the Temple Mount by Muslims."
