In light of Tiberias Mayor Ron Kobi's recent initiation of free buses on the Jewish Sabbath, a rabbinical committee for Shabbat in Tiberias is expected to decide next week on measures to strengthen the Sabbath in the city.

The rabbis' committee does not intend to direct fire at the mayor, but rather to emphasize the sanctity of the Sabbath, strengthen the study of its laws, expand the positioning of Sabbath sirens in the city and try to bring the Sabbath to the city's traditional residents. An attempt will also be made to strengthen the Sabbath-keeping business owners in the city. The haredi-religious newspaper Hamodia reported that Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman (United Torah Judaism) canceled a meeting with Kobi due to desecration of the Sabbath and "his anti-religious activity."
