Acting United States defense secretary Patrick Shanahan has arrived in Iraq for an unannounced visit.
He will consult with American military commanders and Iraqi leaders regarding the future of the US presence there. The Associated Press reports Shanahan said before his arrival that he wanted to hear first-hand about the state of Iraq's fight against remnants of the Islamic State terror movement.
