Danny Danon, Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, has caused a crisis between Israel and opposition groups in Iran, according to Channel 12 Television.
Danon called the Persian Gulf the Arab Gulf, a name not acceptable to the Iranians but favored by the Saudis and their allies. Opposition organizations in Iran, which reportedly have so far given unconditional support for Prime Minister Netanyahu's stance against the Iranian regime, were furious at the use of terminology. It was reported that the social networks criticized Israel for choosing a side in the semantic debate, and opposition elements even asked Israel to clarify the ambassador's remarks.
