During operations yesterday in the area of the Reihan crossing from Samaria to northern Israel and the village of Barta'a, which straddles the 1949 Armistice Line, Border Guards identified a vehicle that raised their suspicion.
A search of the vehicle produced 12 protected goldfinches, and inspectors from the Israel Nature and National Parks Authority were called in. The suspect, a resident of the nearby Palestinian Authority city of Jenin, was detained for questioning.
