MK David Bitan (Likud) announced today that he is waiving the Knesset member's salary increase, which is expected to be updated in January. "As public figures, we should serve as an example and it is not appropriate for our salary to rise especially during the period when we must deal with the cost of living. When I passed the amendment in the Knesset Committee, I thought that the personal example could restore public confidence in the legislature," he said.
It should be noted that in his capacity as chairman of the House Committee, it was Bitan who passed a precedent-setting decision according to which each member of Knesset could personally waive the supplement to his salary.
