President Reuven Rivlin defended the Senior Appointments Committee or the 'Goldenberg Committee'. The vetting group has come under attack after it rejected Moshe Edri as police commissioner last week.

"You can't appoint the committee and expect them to be a rubber stamp," said Rivlin during a conference at the President's Residence. "Judge Goldberg and other members of the committee have the duty to express their clear position, and I am confident that any decision taken by the committee derives its power from purely practical and professional considerations."
