Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is formulating a legal opinion supporting the appointment of Moshe (Chico) Edri as police commissioner, according to Maariv.

Mandelblit intends to bypass the conclusions of the Goldberg Committee for approving appointments in the civil service, which recommended not appointing Edri, citing, "a failure in conduct and discretion that leads to improper behavior" and "a practice that is inconsistent with strict police ethics." Mandelblit told the Knesset State Control Committee today that "it is very unusual to reverse the committee's recommendation," but added that he intends to examine the possibility of defending a decision to appoint Edri, contrary to the committee's opinion.
