Marking Diabetes Day in the Knesset, the Knesset's Committee on Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs, held a discussion on public information for new immigrants in their language regarding coping with diabetes and its dangers.
Committee Chairman Avraham Neguise said, "The problem of diabetes is a serious problem among Ethiopian immigrants. Exposure to the Western world, Western diet, and a significant reduction in physical activity have led to a sharp increase in the prevalence of diabetes among Ethiopian Israelis. Diabetes, which hardly existed among Ethiopian immigrants at the time of their immigration to Israel, has become very common with an increased risk of 2.4 times. The main problem is the lack of public awareness of risks and the prevention of diabetes."
