The Arabic-language Al-Arabi Al-Jadid newspaper reported on Monday morning that senior Egyptian intelligence officials have begun contacts with Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Israeli leaders in an attempt to prevent a deterioration in Gaza.
The report cited sources in the Hamas organization.
