Member of Knesset Elazar Stern (Yesh Atid) has responded to an initiative by MK Miki Zohar (Likud), which states that an MK's immunity from criminal prosecution will only be lifted via a demand from the Knesset House Committee.
Stern said, "As a person who sat for years on the House Committee, I was a witness to the fact that the committee has served in recent years as a tool in the hands of the coalition to pass any decision it wants. There is no real discussion there. There is a good reason why Israel has a separation of powers. It is not the role of Knesset members to judge who deserves immunity and who does not."
