The Ministerial Committee on Legislation endorsed, Sunday, a bill that would allow rabbinical courts to restrict a man who refuses to grant his wife a get (declaration of Jewish divorce) from being issued or allowed to use a credit card in order to persuade him to grant the get and to free his wife from her restrictive marital status.
Member of Knesset Bezalel Smotrich (Jewish Home), who initiated the bill, said that "only with a sustained and determined effort will we be able to eradicate the unacceptable phenomenon of refusal to get a divorce. This law was written in cooperation with the Rabbinical Court and was intended to grant an additional sanction that could be applied against refusers [of both genders]."
