Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of attorney Yaakov Weinroth, calling him "one of the leading and most respected jurists in the State of Israel. Weinroth symbolizes the glory of contemporary Zionism. He was a complex and contradictory man. A brilliant Yeshiva student who was ordained by the leading rabbis on the one hand and a member of the Military Advocate General on the other.
Shaked continued, "A first-rate defense lawyer who believed that the rights of suspects were holy to him. Along with his work around the clock, he invested his energy and abilities in a doctorate that was later accepted as a law and helped improve the agunot in Israel. His broad heart and sharp mind glowed in the world of Israeli law. Weinroth always symbolized the stitches between parts of Israeli society."
