The Tel Aviv Court for local matters recently ruled that the Tel Aviv municipality is not authorized to operate cameras documenting what happens on the street in order to enforce parking offenses, according to a report in Globes. In its ruling, the court made it clear that since the Knesset empowered the municipality to operate such cameras only for the purpose of enforcing an offense of driving on a public transportation route, it is not authorized to use them to enforce parking offenses, in light of the impact of those cameras on the privacy of passersby.
The municipality said it would consider an appeal.
